Alexander the Great and India

The story of Alexander the Great is very close to India. Alexander invaded India in 326 BCE. After the fall of Achaemenid Empire in 328 B.C, he started his most difficult and most awaited campaign ...India ! He crossed Khebar pass and entered into Indian Subcontinent Where he defeated many small Indian states.
He crossed Jhelum River ( Hydaspes River) faced  a great warrior King named  Porus. This battle between Alexander and Porus is also one the major battles fought by Alexander in India.  The Porus had very strong Army ,guarded by hundreds of Elephants ,but After the fierce battle  Alexander defeated and captured Porus and, like the other local rulers he had defeated, allowed him to continue to govern his territory. Alexander even subdued an independent province and granted it to Porus as a gift.
There is a famous conversation of Porus and Alexander ( May be A Myth or Truth ,Who cares ? it is beautiful !)
When defeated Porus bring in front of Alexander --
Alexander Asked " Porus ! What do you want ? How  you wanted to be Treated ?"
Porus replied " As A King Behaves towards Another King ! "
Listening This meaningful statement given by Porus even  after his  defeat ,won the heart the heart of Great Alexander.
Alexander not only give freedom to Porus but also made Porus his friend ,his ally !
